If you love a getaway to the crisp snowy mountains but dream of returning home with a sun kissed glow, Alpe d’Huez is the resort for you.
One of the sunniest resorts in the Alps due to it’s south facing position, you are guaranteed a set of goggle marks to show off on your return home.
Alpe D’Huez has an exceptional ski area with runs and off-piste to suit all standards. The beginner’s area is easy enough to practice your skills before ascending to higher points. Well known for freeskiing due to the varied steep terrain. The Sarenne black run is the world’s longest at 16 kilometres.
Alpe d’Huez is one of the resorts in the French Alps which loves to party, it is likely to have something to do with the fact that it’s so sunny.
With an abundance of busy bars and two vibrant late-night venues you can start at La Folie Douce on the slopes after a hard day hitting the pow, their après parties are notorious and are bound to set you up well for the rest of the evening.
Head down to the village and try out Freeride Café which has pool tables, a large TV screen and a slide down to the toilets. In addition to this, drinks prices work on a stock market model and fluctuate every 100 seconds! This is as close as you’re going to get to Wolf Of Wall Street on the slopes.
For the dare devils among you there are plenty of remote off piste spots such as the Couloir Fleur and Perrins Bowl for vertical descent, with heli drops to deliver you safely back to the resorts altiport.
Alpe D’Huez has everything you need for a good night out, from cosy and relaxed restaurants and bars to nightclubs that keep the wild childs in resort occupied till the early hours.
If you want to take a break from the slopes, included in the price of your lift pass is access to the popular open air swimming pool and the local ice rink.
Should you get thirsty afterwards head to seasonaires favourite, L’Etalon for a rum cocktail. For the beer lovers, they also sell litre steins.
